Twitter Reacts: Jack Wilshere’s woeful Hammers debut

West Ham United’s brilliant summer transfer window has brought all sorts of excitement to the club as the new season gets underway.

The Hammers brought in no less than ten stars in order to help fight for a place in Europe next season, spending around £100m in the process.

As well as bringing in a big name manager in Pellegrini, well known players such as Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko look like they will become integral to the club, and it’s easy to see why.

Despite West Ham’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday, there are certainly some positive signs emerging from the team, not least with the new wingers that the club have signed in the shape of the duo mentioned above.

Former Reds defender turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has echoed praise given to the new attacking duo at the Hammers, saying that fans should be getting excited about them rather than Jack Wilshere.

Carragher said: “I don’t think it’s as good as singing as people are saying. He’s still got to bring a lot more. If I was a West Ham fan I’d be more excited about the wide players than Jack Wilshere.”

Wilshere joined West Ham this summer on a free transfer after spending his entire career at Arsenal, a move that was hailed as one of the signings of the summer.

But the midfielder’s debut for the Hammers didn’t go at all to plan, with Wilshere struggling to make any sort of impact in the game.

The 26 year old managed less than 29 passes during the game, meaning he made even less passes than Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson managed during the game.

Here’s some of the reaction on Twitter to Wilshere’s Hammers debut, some fans are not happy!

However, it’s not all doom and gloom…

The Hammers weren’t expected to beat Liverpool on Sunday, and it was a tough game for Wilshere to make his debut in. Given time, the England international will certainly show his worth for the club.
