‘Cheers Moysie’ ‘Gutted’ Fans Wish West Ham Signed 36 Goal Striker Who Is Now A Target For Arsenal And Chelsea

West Ham supporters are regretting the club’s decision not to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City last summer.

The Hammers had regularly scouted the Swedish international before he joined Sporting Lisbon at the start of the season.

Gyokeres is now attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, having scored 36 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions, and fans on X have been left wondering what might have been:

Could West Ham still make a move for Gyokeres?

The 25-year-old now has a €100m (£86m) release clause in his contract, which Sporting will want paid in full, so there is next to no chance of the Irons getting involved in the battle for his signature.

Considering that they could have got Gyokeres for a quarter of the price last year, that will likely be a cause of regret for manager David Moyes and the recruitment team.

A striker will be a priority for the summer transfer window

West Ham are said to be in the market for a new no.9. In recent days, there have even been links with a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Whether that is a realistic transfer, it is up for debate.

The England international will be cheaper than Gyokeres as he is closing in on the final year of his contract but he won’t exactly move teams for a bargain price.
