West Ham are keeping tabs on Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez, according to insider ExWHUEmployee.

Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast, Ex confirmed reports earlier this week that technical director Tim Steidten is scouting the Mexican international:

“Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord is definitely one to keep an eye on, with the player identified as someone we very much admire. Steidten and his team are working across various leagues over Europe, and it could be that we look to strengthen again this January.”

Reinforcing the frontline is likely to be one of the Hammers’ main priorities when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

While Mohammed Kudus has been brought in from Ajax, he isn’t an out-and-out striker, and the club still need to replace Gianluca Scamacca.

West Ham will have competition for Gimenez

The Mexican has scored 15 goals in just 12 appearances for Feyenoord this season so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a number of clubs are monitoring the player’s progress.

It is believed that there are at least three other English teams interested in Gimenez, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle United all said to have scouts watching him.

There are also 6 other sides on the continent, including Real Madrid, who are admirers of the forward.

Feyenoord have set a pretty hefty price tag

The Eredivisie champions are reportedly holding out for around £40m to sell the striker and, considering the amount of interest being shown in him, they will feel confident that someone will match their valuation.

Whether West Ham, who spent £38m to bring in Kudus during the summer, will have the necessary funds to sign Gimenez, it is not known.

If the 22-year-old continues to be as prolific as he has been recently, the Irons may have to move quickly if they want to secure his services.
