West Ham have entered the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to The Sun.

The English tabloid reports that the Hammers have “expressed an interest” in the England international, along with rivals Chelsea and Tottenham.

Toney is expected to leave the GTech Community Stadium at the end of the season. The Bees are said to be keen to sell with the player’s contract running down into its final twelve months.

Up until now, it has been claimed that Chelsea and Arsenal were the frontrunners for the 28-year-old’s signature, but The Sun believe that the Gunners have dropped out of the running as they focus on alternatives.

With three other London clubs now left to fight it out for Toney, the player will have a decision to make on his future in the next few months.

Why are West Ham interested in Toney?

The Irons only have two recognised strikers in the first-team squad, and both could end up leaving the London Stadium this summer.

Michail Antonio has a contract that expires in June, while Danny Ings has struggled to find the back of the net since arriving from Aston Villa in January last year.

What are the chances of Toney moving to the London Stadium?

If Spurs do qualify for the Champions League, it is felt that they could well be the favourites to sign the striker. It is also expected that both Chelsea and West Ham would need to free up funds before making bids due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Brentford were holding out for £100m to sell Toney in January but, due to his contract situation, they will have to lower their demands in the next transfer window. Whether their valuation will come down low enough for the Hammers to afford the player, we shall have to wait and see.
