West Ham have “inquired” about signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for the England international, along with Arsenal and Chelsea, but it appears that David Moyes’ side have made the first official approach.
With Plettenberg suggesting the Toney could be sold for between £30m and £40m this summer due to his contract situation, fans on X have encouraged West Ham to make a concerted effort to snap up the player:
30-40 mil is good. Get him 2 the bowl

If 30-40 million is Toney’s price then I’m all for signing him my biggest worry is for that price most of the league’s going to want him

30-40m? That’s a bargain if I’ve ever seen one! Idc about his attitude 40m for the 2nd best striker in the league is a steal!

West Ham’s interest may have cooled
From Plettenberg’s own reporting, it is suggested that the Irons are not currently favourites to secure Toney’s services.
Whether that is due to the forward preferring other teams or whether West Ham are considering bids for other no.9s, it is not known.
Recruiting a goalscorer will be a top priority for the summer
West Ham are very short of options up front. Ever since Gianluca Scamacca was allowed to leave the London Stadium last year, without a replacement being found, the club have relied on Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen to lead the line.
With Antonio’s contract expiring at the end of the season, it should lead the Hammers to redouble their efforts to buy a new striker. Many supporters are clearly hoping that Toney is the one that the club secure.
