West Ham, Crystal Palace and Chelsea are all interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda, according to AS.

The Spanish publication claims that a “meeting in London” between the agents and interested clubs is set to take place “today” (Friday, 25th August).

Fresneda was expected to join Barcelona but the La Liga champions have opted to loan Joao Cancelo from Manchester City instead.

It has left Fresneda’s representatives scrambling to find another destination before the transfer window shuts, and it looks as though a move to England or Portugal is now on the cards.

In addition to the three Premier League clubs, AS report that a transfer to Sporting Lisbon is also a “possibility”, although it is likely that the most lucrative offers will come from the English teams.

Fresneda’s asking price is not high

The 18-year-old is a highly-rated young player, and he does have a €20m (£17m) release clause in his contract, but Real Valladolid’s relegation from the Spanish top fight means they need to raise cash this summer.

Over the past week, it has been claimed that they could consider offloading Fresneda for just €10m (£8.6m); a fee that should attract plenty of buyers.

Do West Ham need a player like Fresneda?

The Spanish Under 19 international is ostensibly a right-back and, with the Hammers said to be in the market for a left-back, you wouldn’t have thought that he’d be a priority target.

However, with both Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson having less than a year left on their contracts, bringing in Fresneda now could be with the future in mind. He does possess huge potential, with Arsenal having also tried to sign him in the past, so it may be worth pursuing his signature.
