West Ham Have ‘Reached An Agreement’ To Sign £17M Ex Chelsea Player But There’s A Catch

West Ham have “reached an agreement” with Juventus to buy Denis Zakaria, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper says the Hammers are prepared to pay €20m (£17m) to sign the former Chelsea loanee on a permanent basis.

However, David Moyes’ side are not the only team that have agreed a fee with Juve for Zakaria. Ligue One side Monaco and Bundesliga club RB Leipzig are also in the mix.

Gazzetta claim it is now down to the player to “decide” which team he wants to join in the coming days.

It remains to be seen whether this information is backed up by sources in the UK but Zakaria is known to be one of West Ham’s targets.

The Swiss international will be cheaper than Ward-Prowse, Gallagher or McTominay

Reports have suggested that the Irons have prioritised moves for players with Premier League experience.

The likes of Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay have all been targeted for that reason.

However, with bids having already been rejected for Ward-Prowse and Gallagher, and McTominay’s price tag set at £40m, West Ham appear to have been priced out of recruiting the British trio.

West Ham’s first Steidten signing?

If Gazzetta‘s reporting is accurate, and Zakaria ultimately decides to make the switch to the London Stadium, it would be the first addition backed by technical director Tim Steidten.

The German knows Zakaria well after seeing him play in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach, and he has continued to track the progress of the midfielder over the past few years.

Zakaria has already played in the Premier League, although his game time at Chelsea last season was limited. Still, £17m for a 26-year-old with 49 international caps does look like a pretty good deal on the face of it.
