Reliable Journalist Claims Chelsea Are “Braced For Further Interest” From West Ham For £70M Rated Duo

West Ham are still keen on signing Chelsea pair Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen, according to the Evening Standard reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The journalist, who is usually pretty reliable when it comes to the Blues, claims Mauricio Pochettino’s side are “braced for further interest” from the Hammers before the transfer window closes.

Manager David Moyes has recently stated that he does want to bring in at least two more players ahead of next Friday’s deadline:

“Maybe we get another couple before we wrap up. We hope we’ve spent the money really well.”

Whether he is including Mohammed Kudus in that number, it is not known. However, it is believed that Moyes is a keen admirer of Gallagher and there has also been speculation that the club want to sign a left-back this summer.

Gallagher and Maatsen are not available on the cheap

It is important to point out that Gallagher has started Chelsea’s first three Premier League matches this season so he is not exactly someone who is on the fringes of the Blues’ first team.

Last month, it was reported that the England international’s valuation was as high as £50m, so that may well put off West Ham from making a bid.

Maatsen’s situation is slightly different. The Dutchman has less than twelve months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and, while the Blues are reportedly holding out for as much as £20m for the fullback, that price could come down in the coming days.

West Ham have already made some smart purchases this summer

After reports that Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten had fallen out over transfer targets, it was interesting to hear the Irons boss praise the German in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

From the outside looking in, the pair have seemingly settled their differences, with the club having made some decent additions to the squad such as Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Kudus.
