West Ham are still “keen” on recruiting Chelsea striker Armando Broja, according to TEAMtalk.

The website claims that the Albanian international could be sold to free up funds for a new no.9 during the January transfer window.

Broja has been targeted by the Hammers before, having been the subject of an official bid in the summer of 2022 before the player signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge instead.

The 22-year-old subsequently sustained a serious knee injury, spending over nine months on the sidelines before making his comeback against Aston Villa at the end of September.

Pochettino is a big fan of Broja

The striker went on to score on his first start of the season in a 2-0 win against Fulham last month, and manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed his admiration for the player following the game:

“You start to feel the player in a training session you can see the potential. I think Broja has amazing potential. Now it’s about how he recovers from this injury and long period he was out. He is a very talented player.”

West Ham need a new forward

After Gianluca Scamacca was sold to Atalanta in the summer, it was expected that the Irons would go back into the market to find a replacement for the Italian international. While they did recruit Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian is more of a winger than an out-and-out forward.

With Michail Antonio’s contract set to expire at the end of the season too, bringing in a new striker does take on even greater urgency.

Broja does look like a great fit for David Moyes’ style of play. He can hold up the ball but he is also very mobile. As Pochettino mentions, the Albanian is still young and there is every chance that he could realise his potential at the London Stadium.
