West Ham Consider Swoop For £33M Premier League Star Who Rejected Them 15 Months Ago

West Ham are weighing up a potential bid for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to 90min.com.

The Toffees are in financial difficulties and there has been speculation in recent days that they will be forced into offloading some of their key players during the January transfer window.

90min say that things may not come to that, but it hasn’t stopped the likes of the Hammers, Manchester United and Aston Villa taking an interest in Onana.

The Belgian international made the switch to Goodison Park for £33m last year, and he has impressed with his individual performances, even though Everton have continued to struggle at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

Onana has already turned down West Ham once

It should be pointed out that David Moyes‘ side did make a concerted effort to sign the midfielder when he was still a Lille player. At the time, though, Onana decided that a move to Everton was the right one for him.

Whether that was because the Toffees were prepared to give him £100,000 a week, it is up for debate, but West Ham may have to hope that he has had a change of heart about a transfer to the London Stadium.

Signing a midfielder is not a priority for the Irons

While West Ham are clearly admirers of Onana, the club’s focus ahead of January will be on recruiting a new striker. A number of players have been mentioned in recent weeks as potential targets.

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, Chelsea’s Armando Broja, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke have all been linked. However, the latest name to emerge is former Tottenham player Steven Bergwijn. The Dutchman has scored 6 goals in 9 league games for Ajax so far this season.
