TOP FIVE Youngest Goalscorers In Premier League History

After looking at the oldest goalscorers of the Premier League era in our last article, we will now focus on the youngest.

Footballers can mature at different ages. Goalkeepers, in particular, may only reach their peak in their late twenties to early thirties.

However, with forwards and midfielders, age is much less of a factor. The top five in our list today were all 17 or below when they first scored in the English top flight.

Press the next page as we name the youngest players to score in the Premier League.

5) Michael Owen (Liverpool) – 17 Years and 144 Days

The teenage striker did not look back after scoring on his debut for the Reds against Wimbledon in 1996.

Owen scored eighteen goals in his first full season in Liverpool’s first team, and he would hit double figures in seven successive campaigns before leaving for Real Madrid in 2004.

4) Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal) – 17 Years and 114 Days

The first midfielder on our list, the Spaniard bagged his first goal for the Gunners in a 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in 2004.

Fabregas spent eight years in Arenal’s first team before leaving the Emirates for Barcelona. He would later return to London when he joined Chelsea in 2014.

3) Wayne Rooney (Everton) – 16 Years and 360 Days

The forward was nearing his seventeenth birthday when he announced himself to the world with a brilliantly taken goal against Arsenal all the way back in 2002.

It wasn’t too long before Manchester United came calling and he went on to have a long and illustrious career at Old Trafford.

2) James Milner (Leeds) – 16 Years and 356 Days

The young attacking midfielder got his first goal in a 2-1 win over Sunderland in December 2002, meaning Rooney held the youngest scorer record for just a couple of months.

Milner is the only player in the top five who is still playing at the highest level, making regular runouts for Liverpool at the ripe old age of 36.

1) James Vaughan (Everton) – 16 Years and 270 Days

Comparisons to Rooney were inevitable after the teenager scored on his debut against Crystal Palace in 2005 but, despite spending seven seasons at Everton, he never quite made his mark.

Injuries played a big part in Vaughan failing to hit the heights expected of him but he still had a very respectable career playing for a number of different teams in the Football League.
