TOP FIVE Oldest Goalscorers In Premier League History

In today’s post, we will be profiling some of the oldest goalscorers of the Premier League era.

Goalkeepers and defenders tend to have extended careers but, with the odd exception, it’s much rarer to see a striker or even midfielder reach their late 30s and still be a goal threat.

All five on our list were 38 years of age or older when they bagged their last goal in the English top flight, which demonstrates their longevity at the highest level.

Press the next page as we count down the oldest players to score in the Premier League.

5) Graham Alexander – Burnley (38 Years And 6 Months)

Despite being a right-back, Alexander was a penalty specialist and he scored his final two goals in the Premier League from spot kicks in the same match.

Alexander bagged his brace in a 4-1 win against Hull City in April 2010 but, despite scoring eight goals for the Clarets that season, he couldn’t prevent his team from being relegated back to the Championship.

4) Stuart Pearce – West Ham (38 Years And 7 Months)

After leaving Newcastle under a cloud, the veteran defender joined the Irons in 1999 for what would become a late-career swansong.

Pearce was outstanding during the 2000/01 season. He was named Hammer of the Year and he got his final top-flight goal too, in a 3-2 away win over Southampton.

3) Ryan Giggs – Manchester United (39 Years And 3 Months)

The Manchester United legend’s final league goal in a glittering career came during a 2-0 win against Queens Park Rangers in February 2013.

After winning the title that season and seeing his mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson, retire, Giggs spent one final campaign with the Red Devils. However, the 39-year-old didn’t score a goal and he was appointed interim manager after the sacking of David Moyes.

2) Dean Windass – Hull (39 Years, 7 Months and 22 Days)

The veteran forward was responsible for sealing the Tigers’ promotion to the top tier in 2008, by scoring the winner in the Championship final against Bristol City.

However, Windass managed to score just once in the Premier League the following season, getting on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw versus Portsmouth.

1) Teddy Sheringham – West Ham (40 Years, 8 Months and 24 days)

In a long, illustrious career, the forward played for the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United and the Hammers.

Sheringham’s record-breaking goal came when he was playing for West Ham against Portsmouth on Boxing Day in 2006. After finishing the 2006/07 season with the Irons, he spent one more campaign in professional football with Colchester before retiring.
