Top 5 Best Finishers In The Premier League This Season – Including West Ham, Chelsea And Liverpool Stars

A clinical finisher is a prized commodity in the modern game, with there being very few even at the highest level.

There a plenty of players out there who could potentially be top performers if they were able to convert more of their chances into goals.

For this list, we have compared every player’s xG total with their actual goals scored this season. If someone is good at finishing, their goal total is likely to exceed their xG.

Press the next page as we rank the best finishers in the Premier League (based on stats from FBRef).

5) Diogo Jota (Liverpool) – +4.7 goals compared to xG

The Portuguese international is regarded by Reds fans as the club’s most lethal finisher; even more so than Mo Salah.

However, Jota has struggled to stay on the pitch due to injuries this season. After scoring in the 3-1 win over Fulham last weekend, it was confirmed after the match that he picked up another issue.

The forward has hit the back of the net 10 times in 21 league appearances but the stat is even more impressive when you consider that he has only spent 1151 minutes on the pitch.

That means that Jota has scored at a rate of a goal every 116 minutes, demonstrating his ruthlessness when he is available.

4) Phil Foden (Manchester City) – +5.0 goals

The City playmaker is a candidate for the PFA Player of the Year due to his form this campaign.

Foden is certainly doing the business in front of goal. Based on his stats, he should have scored 5 goals fewer in the league than the 14 he has accumulated.

The midfielder has always put in impressive spells during his career at City but he is beginning to become a lot more consistent.

If Pep Guardiola’s side do manage to retain their Premier League title, a lot of the credit has to go to Foden.

3) Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – +5.1 goals

It’s been an incredible first season for the 21-year-old at Chelsea.

Palmer had demonstrated glimpses of his talent at City but it has only been since he made the move to Stamford Bridge where he has begun to show his full potential.

The attacking midfielder has scored his fair share of penalties for Chelsea, but his finishing from open play has been equally as impressive.

Considering the amount of money that Chelsea have spent over the past two years, the £42.5m they shelled out on Palmer could turn out to be a bargain.

2) Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) – +5.3 goals

The West Ham forward is in the form of his life at the moment.

It’s fair to say that Bowen went off the boil somewhat last season, scoring just 6 times in the Premier League, but he has been outstanding since the new campaign began back in August.

The 27-year-old has racked up 15 league goals and, looking at his stats, it is clear to see the reason why.

Bowen has been red-hot with his finishing, with only one other player in the English top flight being more clinical.

1) Son Heung-min (Tottenham) – +5.7 goals

The South Korean international’s goalscoring ability is criminally underrated.

During his nine seasons in English football, Son has consistently shown he is an outstanding finisher, regularly scoring more goals than his xG.

At 31 years age, the forward is still doing the business for Spurs, invariably putting the ball in the back of the next when presented with opportunities.

Son is currently the best finisher in the Premier League, based on the data.
