The Top 5 Worst Performing Players In The Premier League This Season

The Premier League is arguably the toughest professional league in the world to play in. The amount of investment means nearly every football club is full of seasoned internationals.

However, it does mean that some struggle to perform at the required level, and in today’s post, we are going to look at the worst performers this season.

For this top 5 ranking, we are taking statistics from WhoScored.com and we will only be including those players who have started 10 league games or more.

Press the next page as we look at the worst-performing players in the English top flight this campaign.

5) Harrison Reed (Fulham) – 6.32

It has not been a vintage season for the 29-year-old, who has struggled to make an impact on proceedings when handed starting opportunities by manager Marco Silva.

In 13 starts (and 11 substitute appearances), Reed has scored 0 goals, provided just 1 assist and picked up 5 yellow cards.

While the midfielder has never been particularly creative, he has failed to really make any impression in matches, even on the defensive side of the game.

Reed has averaged 1.2 tackles and only 0.4 interceptions per match in the Premier League for the Cottagers this campaign.

4) Sasa Lukic (Fulham) – 6.29

The Serbian is the second player from the Cottagers who makes it into our top 5, and he is another midfielder too.

Lukic is not exactly inexperienced, having been capped 44 times by Serbia, but he has found it difficult to adapt to the Premier League since arriving from Torino in January last year.

Over the past 15 months, the 27-year-old has made just 18 starts in all competitions for Fulham.

Interestingly enough, 6 of those have come in the league since the end of February but, despite getting his first goal for the club against Tottenham during that period, he has found himself back on the bench in recent games.

3) Vitinho (Burnley) – 6.29

The Brazilian has played 6 more matches than Lukic this season so it was right to put him above the Fulham midfielder on this list despite the same Whoscored rating.

Vitnho was signed for a low fee from Cercle Brugge in the summer, but he is clearly out of his depth in the English top flight.

He has been part of a Burnley backline that has conceded 67 goals; the second-worst defensive record this campaign.

It must be said that Vitinho hasn’t been that effective in the final third either, having failed to score or provide a single assist.

2) Adam Lallana (Brighton) – 6.19

It looks like the 35-year-old’s time at the top level is coming to an end based on his performances this season.

Lallana does have one assist to his name, which came during the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea at the start of December last year.

However, apart from that, the attacking midfielder has had very little impact on games, despite starting 11 league matches and making substitute appearances in 11 others.

With Lallana’s contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, it would be a surprise if the former Liverpool player was given another extension.

1) Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu (Luton Town) – 6.09

It’s fair to say that the 30-year-old has found things tough in his first year playing in the Premier League.

Mpanzu has been a loyal servant to the Hatters, having made his first appearance for the club when they were still in the National League back in 2013.

He has been a mainstay of Luton’s starting lineup over the last decade, but manager Rob Edwards has limited his game time since promotion.

Mpanzu remains a useful squad player but he hasn’t been able to perform at the required level to hold down a first-team place this season.
