Top 5 Players Who Have Made The Most Tackles In The Premier League So Far This Season

After looking at the Premier League stars with the most touches last week, we now move on to the most tackles.

Some say tackling is a dying art in the modern game, where more and more challenges are being punished as fouls. However, the ref will never blow his whistle if it is a clean tackle and there are still those that make a living in the Premier League who are experts at breaking up play.

Unsurprisingly, our top five comprises mostly of midfielders. However, there is one fullback who also makes the list.

Press the next page as we go through the players with the most tackles in the Premier League so far this campaign.

5) Christian Norgaard (Brentford) – 48

The club captain is undoubtedly one of Brentford’s unsung heroes.

Since joining from Fiorentina in the summer of 2019, Norgaard has been one of Thomas Frank’s most consistent players.

He doesn’t do anything flashy in the middle of the park, popping up with the odd goal and assist here and there, whilst doing his best to break up play and set up attacks for his teammates.

Norgaard is a very selfless player who is prepared to get stuck in and sacrifice himself for the good of the team.

4) Yves Bissouma (Tottenham) – 50

The Malian international struggled during his first season at Spurs, and he clearly wasn’t rated by his then-manager Antonio Conte.

However, since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou in the summer, we have begun to see more of the Bissouma who impressed onlookers with his performances for Brighton.

There are still times when the 27-year-old can be rash, sticking a boot in when he shouldn’t, or taking too many touches on one of his lung-bursting runs forward.

Apart from that, though, Bissouma has had a very positive impact since being given a more prominent role by Postecoglou.

3) Pedro Porro (Tottenham) – 51

The second Spurs player on this list, and another one who has benefited from the arrival of Postecoglou.

Many felt that Porro was ill-suited to a back four, with the Spaniard having been exposed defensively on a number of occasions in the second half of last season.

However, Postecoglou has managed to get the balance right with the attacking fullback. He is very productive in the final third of the pitch but he is also tracking back a lot more.

Porro is arguably one of the most improved players in the Premier League so far this campaign.

2) Vinicius Souza (Sheffield United) – 63

While the Blades have really struggled since their promotion back to the Premier League, one of the few shining lights has been the Brazilian’s form.

United didn’t have a big transfer budget in the summer but they were prepared to shell out £10m on Souza.

Considering the 24-year-old was playing on loan from Espanyol in Belgian football for Lommel last season, there were no guarantees that he would be a success in England.

However, Souza has embraced the physicality of the Premier League, putting out fires and making tackles and interceptions left, right and centre.

1) Joao Palhinha (Fulham) – 82

The Portuguese international is ahead on this metric by quite some distance.

It is, therefore, not really a surprise that some of the top Premier League clubs are keen on signing Palhinha during the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has the height and strength to outmuscle opposition players, whilst also possessing the stamina to cover lots of ground.

Palhinha is without question one of the top holding midfielders in the country.
