Top 5 Players Who Have Had The Most Shots In The Premier League So Far This Season

Following on from our post last week looking at the Premier League players who have been dispossessed the most times this season, we now move on to those who have had the most shots.

Strikers generally have the most attempts on goal, so it is no surprise that our top 5 is full of them.

Although shots don’t necessarily translate to goals, it is interesting to note that 4 of these players are also in the top 5 scorers this season.

Press the next page as we count down the players who have taken the most shots in the Premier League (as of 13th December 2023).

5) Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) – 45 Shots

Considering the Uruguayan has only scored 4 league goals this campaign, it suggests that the striker’s finishing leaves a lot to be desired.

Nunez’s conversion rate is currently 8.9%, which is very poor when compared with the rest of the players on this list.

It is not what you would expect from an £85m signing, and it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old can improve his composure in front of goal.

His shot numbers suggest that he is a threat to opposition defences, but he is too wasteful to be classed as a top forward at the moment.

4) Mo Salah (Liverpool) – 47 Shots

In contrast to his teammate Nunez, the Egyptian’s shot conversion ratio is excellent.

Salah has scored 11 times in the Premier League from 47 shots, which means he has hit the back of the net with 23.4% of his attempts so far this season.

It should be noted that 3 of those goals were penalties and, as spot-kicks are widely regarded as being easier to score, it does skew his numbers slightly.

Even so, after hitting his 200th goal in all competitions for Liverpool against Crystal Palace at the weekend, Salah’s finishing ability is not in doubt.

=2) Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) – 48 Shots

The forward has upped his output for Villa this campaign.

Watkins is the joint 5th top scorer in the Premier League, having bagged 8 goals from his 48 shots, giving him a 16.7% conversion rate.

It may be significantly below Salah’s percentage, but it is still double that of Nunez.

You would say that, while Watkins may not be an elite finisher, he is above average based on his performances since the season began in August.

=2) Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth) – 48 Shots

Having struggled for goals in previous top-flight seasons, something has clicked for the 26-year-old this year.

Solanke has scored exactly the same amount of goals from precisely the same number of shots as Watkins, so he has the same shot conversion ratio (16.7%).

Whether the England international is simply going through a purple patch or not, it seems Cherries boss Andoni Iraola is getting the best out of him.

Solanke is certainly getting more opportunities to shoot. He only managed 76 during the 2022/23 campaign.

1) Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 58 Shots

Some have criticised the Norwegian for being less clinical than last season but that is being overly harsh based on the stats.

Haaland has already hit the back of the net 14 times and that means his shot conversion rate is 24.1%.

That is the highest percentage in our top five, with the caveat that he has scored 3 penalties.

There can be no doubt that Haaland remains the most lethal finisher in the English top flight.
