Top 5 Most Overpaid Forwards In The Premier League

Premier League footballers earn a lot in terms of weekly salary and you could reasonably argue that every professional player is overpaid.

However, some are better value for money than others in terms of their contributions on the pitch.

Analysts at Ticketgum have looked at every Premier League striker’s wage and compared it to their minutes played and their number of goals and assists. They then calculated a score out of ten for every player.

Press the next page as we count down the 5 most overpaid forwards in the English top flight so far this season.

5) Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) – 3.55 /10

The 26-year-old’s inclusion in the top 5 will not come as a surprise to anyone.

After hitting the back of the net 17 times in the Premier League last season, Rashford has only managed 4 so far this campaign.

Despite earning £15.6m a year, the England international is struggling to provide the goal threat that is needed for his team.

Rashford has even been benched by manager Erik ten Hag at times this season, with his confidence levels having hit rock bottom. However, he has scored in his last two league appearances so he may have turned a corner.

4) Antony (Manchester United) – 3.16/10

The Brazilian international has had his problems off the pitch but that doesn’t excuse his very disappointing performances for the Red Devils.

Antony has failed to score or provide a single assist in 17 league appearances so far this campaign, despite taking home a salary of £10.4m a year.

There is already speculation that the 23-year-old could be sold by United at the end of the season, despite the club having paid Ajax £85m for the player 18 months ago.

Considering Antony’s poor form, it is actually a shock that he isn’t higher up this list.

3) Fabio Silva (Wolves) – 3.10/10

It should be pointed out that the Portuguese forward has actually joined Scottish side Rangers on loan for the second half of the season.

His departure was on the cards as Silva didn’t contribute a lot for Wolves before the New Year, with only 8 league appearances.

The 21-year-old is said to be earning £4.16m a year at Molineux but he barely got a look-in under manager Gary O’Neil, with limited minutes on the pitch.

Silva will be looking to reignite his career during his time at Ibrox between now and May.

2) Divock Origi (Nottingham Forest) – 2.38/10

The Liverpool cult hero moved to the City Ground from AC Milan in the summer, but fitness and poor form have limited him to only 178 minutes in the Premier League.

Considering that Origi is earning £6.24m a year, Forest are really not getting value for money from the Belgian international.

There are already rumours that the striker could leave for a club in the United States before the transfer window closes.

Origi may end up being a very expensive flop for Forest, having barely been back in England for six months.

1) Danny Ings (West Ham) – 2.19/10

No Hammers supporter will be surprised that the former Southampton and Aston Villa player finishes in first place.

Ings is currently earning £6.5m a year but he has yet to hit the back of the net in 20 appearances for West Ham so far this campaign.

The striker, who scored a hatful of goals for his previous clubs, has struggled to replicate that form at the London Stadium.

What is particularly damning is that manager David Moyes has decided to select a winger in Jarrod Bowen upfront, rather than Ings, to start games in the absence of the injured Michail Antonio.
