Top 5 Goalkeepers Who Have Made The Most Saves In The Premier League So Far This Season

After looking at the most passes by individual players last week, we now move on to the most saves made by goalkeepers in the Premier League.

It may sound like a good thing that a club’s no.1 is making plenty of saves, but, when you think about it, it is more of a negative, as it shows how many shots a defence is allowing on their own goal.

This list, unsurprisingly, has a couple of keepers who are playing for clubs struggling against relegation, but there are a few names here that may surprise people.

Press the next page as we name the 5 Premier League goalkeepers with the most saves this season (as of 29th November 2023).

5) Alphonse Areola (West Ham) – 48

The Hammers keeper has pulled off a number of spectacular saves already this campaign.

Areola was actually awarded the official Premier League ‘Save of the Month’ for October after making a fingertip save during the 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

The France international has certainly justified David Moyes’ decision to make him West Ham’s No.1 for league games ahead of Lukasz Fabianski.

Areola is a towering presence in goal, and his long reach means he is able to keep out his fair share of shots.

4) Thomas Kaminski (Luton Town) – 50

The Hatters paid just £2.5m to bring in the Belgian from Blackburn Rovers in the summer.

So far, Kaminski has not let his team down, making some crucial saves to help them secure some vital results in recent matches.

Luton may have still let in 23 in 13 games but their goal difference is substantially better than fellow promoted sides Burnley and Sheffield United.

Much of the credit has to go to Kaminski, who is statistically up there with the best-performing keepers in the top flight this season.

=2) Bernd Leno (Fulham) – 51

After moving from Arsenal last year, the German international had a stellar first season at Craven Cottage.

Things have not been quite as straightforward so far this campaign, and Fulham’s defence has been rather shaky, with Leno being called into action on a regular basis.

While the 31-year-old is still performing pretty well as an individual, his team are letting in goals way too often at the moment.

At their current rate, the Cottagers are on course to concede 64 goals, which is 11 more than last year.

=2) Andre Onana (Manchester United) – 51

The Cameroon international had a nightmare start to life at Old Trafford.

Onana made a number of individual errors that cost United goals and points but he has managed to turn around his fortunes in recent weeks.

In fact, his goalkeeper metrics are now comparable to Liverpool’s Alisson, demonstrating the lightning-quick transformation in his form.

Even so, United’s defence is giving Onana a lot more work to do than it should be for a team looking to finish in the top four.

1) Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United) – 65

In some respects, you have to feel sorry for the 32-year-old, who has been peppered by shots this campaign.

The Blades’ defence has been woeful at times, having conceded 8 goals at home to Newcastle, and 5 away against Arsenal.

Foderingham is doing his best to keep the opposition out, but Paul Heckingbottom’s team have still conceded the most goals in the top flight (34).

Whether things will improve as the season goes on, we shall have to wait and see.
