Duncan Ferguson

The Scottish hardman had been struggling with fitness issues before the Magpies snapped him up for a hefty fee. While he scored a brace on his debut against Wimbledon, he was then sidelined with injury.

Ferguson played only nine games in the second half of the 1998/99 season and spent just one more year with Newcastle before being sold back to Everton for £3.75m.
