Three Clubs Tracking West Ham Teenage Prodigy With January Sale Being Considered

Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim had scouts in attendance to watch Reece Oxford play for West Ham’s Under 23s last week, according to reports in the English media.

The 19-year-old was in action against Chelsea’s Under 23s on Friday evening with the centre-half scoring the opening goal before the Irons slumped to a 3-2 defeat.

Oxford could be offloaded in the January transfer window with Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini having recently stated that the defender isn’t good enough for the first team:

“If you don’t have the space you must go to another club. We have in his position a player who I am happy with. Angelo Ogbonna is also on the bench, but working very well every day. Issa Diop is playing well, and while Declan Rice doesn’t play in that position, he can.”

“So, we will see what happens with Reece, whether he stays here, or if it is better for him to go and play for another team.”

Manchester City are said to be keen to increase their quota of homegrown players but the teenager is unlikely to get more game time at the Etihad Stadium.

A move to Germany may be more likely after Oxford’s year-long loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, but it is believed the centre-back is determined to stay with West Ham and fight for his place in the first team.
