This West Ham summer target could be the perfect Bilic addition

West Ham have had a strange old season. The initial worries over moving into a new stadium were instantly realised with trouble both on the pitch in terms of performances and violence in the stands, before – having resolved those issues – star man Dimitri Payet went from hero to zero quicker than you can say snake in saying he’d had enough and going on strike.

All that, coupled with injury problems surrounding key players all season long, has lead to up and down performances from week-to-week and made it difficult to get a strong run going at any time, just when you think the east Londoners have got it right and struck form, something else happens and they lose to Hull or Bournemouth.

The Hammers rallied in the absence of Payet after his January move to Marseille and turned their form around, however, before Saturday’s win over Swansea and run of just over two months without picking up three points was out of character for a side who have been knocking on the door of the top six in recent years, along with the likes of Southampton and Everton.

On of their failings this term has been in front of goal, especially when there are notable absentees such as Andy Carroll or Michail Antonio. The emergence of summer signing Andre Ayew, having missed most of the season through injury, has helped get Bilic’s side going once again, however he cannot do it alone.

With that in mind, scouts from east London have been spotted over in Portugal as recently as this weekend, with reports suggesting they’re taking a look at FC Porto striker Yacine Brahimi, who bagged himself a goal from the penalty spot in a 3-0 win over Belenenses with the Hammers officials watching on.

Whilst some fans at the London Stadium would be cautious over another player arriving from the continent, given their lack of success with the likes of Simone Zaza last summer, it appears a deal which could be right up West Ham’s street.

Bilic’s side have enjoyed most success this season when switching to a back three and giving those going forward the chance to pile pressure on the opposition and create chances, they just don’t have the depth to do it all season.

At 27-years-old the forward could be a similar addition to Payet, a talent which has long gone untapped, who could be brought in for a relatively low fee and go on to make himself look a bargain.

His stats add up to, in all the important categories going forward, such as assists, goals, key passes and chances created, he is on a par with both Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass when it comes it averages over the season.

West Ham fans will be desperate to see an improvement upon their first season in Stratford this time next year, and additions such as Brahimi could go a long way to solving that.
