West Ham will face Newport County away from home in the second round of the Carabao Cup. The tie will be played at Rodney Parade on Tuesday 27th August.
After the Hammers were knocked out by AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup last season, a lot of supporters on Twitter are fearing that this could be yet another banana skin:
This has defeat written all over it

Not confident in the slightest.

Wimbledon 2.0

This is the sort of game we absolutely lose

At least we'll be playing on the Dave Parade pitch before the rugger boys churn it up. If Wimbledon was difficult + embarrasing last season, potentially Newport will be even more tricky.

Please play the first 11, no messing about!

We can do this easy, it's ok to fail, it's ok to lose, what matters is you pick yourself up and come back stronger, you come back fighting twice as hard, twice as determined to achieve! #ImForever #COYI!!
We got the squad… we got the talent… we got the cup!

Phew, we missed out on Wimbledon!

This could be a tough one. Let’s hope for no slip ups

After we lost to Wimbledon last season I have no hope

Whether manager Manuel Pellegrini will put out a strong side, it remains to be seen. It may depend on how results go against the likes of Brighton and Watford in the league.
If they go into the Newport game having chalked up a couple of morale-boosting wins, it is fair to assume that a number of changes will be made.
However, if West Ham do struggle in the next two league games, Pellegrini may use the cup tie to get a victory under his belt. Nevertheless, no matter what team he puts out, it will be a tough test against the League Two outfit.
