3) Gilberto
The left-back had impressed for Brazil at the 2006 World Cup and at the 2007 Copa America. However, it was clear very early on, after he made the switch from Hertha Berlin in January 2008, that he wasn’t cut out for the Premier League.
Gilberto played just seven league games in total for the club, and during the 2008/09 season, he was substituted at half time twice by manager Harry Redknapp, making just three appearances in his first full campaign before being offloaded to Cruzeiro.
