The Top Five Players With The Most Key Passes In The Premier League This Season

After looking at the players who have the highest aerial duel win percentage in the Premier League last week, we have now decided to turn our attention towards key passes.

A key pass is a pass that leads directly to a shot on an opponent’s goal, and it is an excellent indicator to determine which players are the most creative on the ball.

This metric generally favours attacking midfielders and all but one of the Premier League stars we have included on our list would fit that description.

Press the next page as we countdown the top five players who have the most key passes in the Premier League this season (based on stats provided by fBRef).

5) Luke Shaw (Manchester United) – 65 Key Passes

The left-back has been in superb form this campaign and it really isn’t a surprise he is so high up on this list.

Shaw used to struggle with producing decent supply for his forwards, but he has greatly improved his game in the final third of the pitch over the past twelve months.

4) Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 72 Key Passes

Many may have thought that the Manchester City playmaker would have topped this list, considering how influential he is as a playmaker for his team.

However, it must be pointed out that De Bruyne did spend a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury in January and February, so that would have affected the Belgian’s numbers.

3) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) – 76 Key Passes

The England international has been out of action since mid-February with a shin injury so the fact that he is still third on this list demonstrates how well he performed for the first five months of the season.

Grealish is a player who demands the ball from his teammates, and his ability to carry possession into the final third means he is able to create chances on a regular basis.

2) Mason Mount (Chelsea) – 81 Key Passes

In a similar fashion to Grealish, the Chelsea midfielder tends to carry the ball into the opponent’s half as well as taking up positions where he can offload the ball to a teammate.

The fact that Mount commits players generally leaves others in space who will have a greater opportunity to get a shot on goal.

1) Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) – 88 Key Passes

The Portuguese international has been a sensational signing for the Red Devils, and he has been very consistent in creating chances since arriving from Sporting in January last year.

United are, though, heavily reliant on Fernandes to come up with the goods, but he has done his best to rise to the challenge, having scored 24 goals and provided 14 assists this campaign.
