The Top Five Players Who Have Won The Most Tackles In The Premier League This Season

After profiling the most clinical finishers in the Premier League last week, we now switch our attention towards the best tacklers.

Some pundits say tackling is a dying art in the modern game but the five players on this list do prove there are still some who are capable of winning the ball off an opponent.

To clarify things, the statistics used are for the most tackles won rather than the most tackles attempted as this offers a better reflection of a player’s tackling ability.

Press the next page as we look at the top five players who have won the most tackles in the Premier League this season (based on stats provided by fBRef).

5) N’Golo Kante (Chelsea) – 50 Tackles Won

The Frenchman’s inclusion on this list won’t come as a surprise to anybody but it is an even greater achievement considering he has only started two-thirds of the Blues’ league games this season.

Kante has won 50 of the 79 tackles he has made, a 63% win ratio, which shows how consistent he is when he makes an attempt to win the ball.

4) Ruben Neves (Wolves) – 54 Tackles Won

The Portuguese international has more of a reputation for his passing ability and scoring long-range shots, but he has also developed into a competent holding midfield player.

Reports suggest that Manchester United may well be keeping tabs on Neves as a potential alternative to West Ham’s Declan Rice.

3) Rodri (Manchester City) – 54 Tackles Won

The Spaniard is certainly the most expensive player on this list, costing £62.6m, and he is very effective as a holding midfielder.

Rodri has been criticised for his lack of pace at times, but his tackling and positional play give Manchester City the steady platform they need in the middle of the park.

2) Yves Bissouma (Brighton) – 57 Tackles Won

The Malian has been tipped to leave the Seagulls for a bigger club in the summer by numerous pundits, with Jamie Carragher the latest to sing his praises after the game against Everton on Monday night.

Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be keeping tabs on Bissouma, following the 24-year-old’s excellent season on the south coast.

1) Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Spurs) – 69 Tackles Won

The Danish international is a Jose Mourinho player through and through. He isn’t easy on the eye but he does a job for Tottenham in the middle of the pitch.

Hojbjerg tops the list for most tackles won and the most tackles attempted, having been the only person in the Premier League so far this season to have tackled over 100 players.
