The Top FIVE Bookies Favourites To Win The 2021 Ballon d’Or

30 nominees were announced for the 2021 Ballon d’Or prize on Friday by France Football magazine.

The winner of the award will be determined by journalists from across the world, with the results being announced at a ceremony on November 29th.

Usually, the accolade is handed to the player who has performed the best across the calendar year, although what that means is very much down to interpretation.

Press the next page as we name the five current bookmakers’ favourites for the Ballon d’Or.

5) Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

The Portuguese international broke the all-time international goalscoring record back in September, and he has now scored 115 in 182 appearances for Portugal.

For his club, Ronaldo bagged 36 goals in 44 appearances for Juventus before his move to United in the summer. He has started his second spell at Old Trafford with five goals in his first six games.

4) N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Widely regarded as the best holding midfielder in world football, the 30-year-old played a pivotal role as Chelsea secured their second European Cup.

Kante was the standout performer in the final against Manchester City. The Blues were the underdogs but a battling defensive performance, led by the Frenchman, secured a well deserved 1-0 win.

3) Jorginho (Chelsea)

The Italian’s inclusion among the favourites is essentially down to the fact that he was a key figure in helping Chelsea win the Champions League and Italy securing the European Championships.

While nobody would dispute that Jorginho is as talented as most of the other favourites for the Ballon d’Or, he was very important in winning two high profile tournaments.

2) Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

The Polish international would have been a shoo-in for the 2020 prize but the decision was made to cancel the ceremony. While the 33-year-old has not matched the 55 goals in 47 appearances he managed during the 2019/20 season, he has still been in blistering form.

Lewandowski bagged 48 goals for Bayern in all competitions last campaign, as well as 13 in 10 matches this season. He is more than deserving to be among the favourites for this year’s award.

1) Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain)

The Argentine scored 38 goals and contributed 14 assists for Barcelona last season, but he failed to win a trophy for his club after finishing third in La Liga and crashing out of the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, Messi did win the Copa America with Argentina for the first time, and it is believed that may sway some journalists into giving him his seventh Ballon d’Or.
