The FIVE Youngest Players To Play In The Premier League And Where They Are Now

After listing the top five keepers with the most Premier League clean sheets last week, we are now moving on to profile the youngest top-flight debutants.

Promising talents are sometimes given their first taste of senior football very early on, although it doesn’t always lead to a prolonged career at the highest level.

In this list, we will be taking a look at what happened to these players and where they are now.

5) Aaron Lennon (16 Years And 129 Days)

The winger made his debut for Leeds United against Tottenham in August 2003.

Out of the top five, Lennon is the player who has had the most success at the highest level, having made 416 appearances in the Premier League in total.

The midfielder only retired last year at the age of 35, playing for four different top-flight clubs (Leeds, Spurs, Everton and Burnley).

4) Isaiah Brown (16 Years And 117 Days)

The midfielder was given his first team bow by West Brom against Wigan Athletic in May 2013. It was his only appearance for the Baggies before he made the switch to Chelsea.

Brown has had various loan spells away from the Blues, including Vitesse Arnhem, Rotherham, Huddersfield Town, Brighton, Leeds, Luton and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, he only made 15 appearances in the Premier League (13 for Brighton and just 1 for Chelsea). The 26-year-old left Stamford Bridge on a free transfer for Preston in 2021 but he was let go last summer. No team has picked him up as a free agent.

3) Matthew Briggs (16 Years And 68 Days)

The centre-back made his debut for Fulham against Middlesbrough back in May 2007.

Briggs spent five seasons with the Cottagers, but he only made 12 more appearances in the Premier League, with the rest of his time spent out on loan.

He eventually left the London club for Millwall in the summer of 2014, before spells at Colchester and various other teams. The defender is currently plying his trade in the non-league with Gosport Borough.

2) Harvey Elliott (16 Years And 30 Days)

The winger was handed his first senior appearance by Fulham against Wolves in May 2019.

Elliott was already nearing the end of his contract at Craven Cottage at the time and he moved to Liverpool just a couple of months after his debut.

On Merseyside, the teenager has made 51 appearances for the Reds, having now become a regular starter under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.

1) Ethan Nwaneri (15 Years And 181 Days)

The midfielder holds the distinction as the only 15-year-old to make an appearance in a Premier League fixture.

Nwaneri was sent on by manager Mikel Arteta as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 away win against Brentford in September 2022.

The teenager has not made a matchday squad for the first team since then, with many believing his debut was handed to him as a way of persuading the player to sign a new contract.
