The FIVE Youngest Players At The 2022 Qatar World Cup

With the World Cup now well underway, we thought it was a good time to shine a light on some of the young players who have been selected by their national teams for the tournament.

As we saw with Kylian Mbappe four years ago, teenagers are capable of taking to the pitch and performing on the world stage.

In today’s list, we will be looking at the youngest stars at the 2022 World Cup (using their age when the competition started on November 20th).

Press the next page as we count down the five youngest players in Qatar.

5) Bilal El Khannouss (Morocco) – 18 Years And 194 Days

The midfielder did not get off the bench for Morocco’s opening group game against Croatia but he is a very promising young talent.

El Khannouss plays his club football for Genk in the Belgian Pro League. He has broken into the first team this season, having made seventeen appearances in all competitions.

4) Jewison Bennette (Costa Rica) – 18 Years And 158 Days

The forward actually plys his trade in England, having joined English Championship side Sunderland from Herediano only back in August. He has yet to start a league match but he did score his first goal for the Black Cats in a 2-2 draw against Watford back in September.

Bennette generally favours playing as a conventional winger, off the left flank, and he has already been capped seven times by his country. We shall see how often he features in the group stages.

3) Gavi (Spain) – 18 Years And 107 Days

The talented midfielder already has plenty of admirers, including BBC presenter Gary Lineker who has described him as one of the “shining young lights” for his club side Barcelona.

Gavi has been a regular starter for Luis Enrique’s team since making his debut last year so, unlike some of the other players on this list, he is expected to feature heavily at the World Cup.

2) Garang Kuol (Australia) – 18 Years And 66 Days

The Australian hasn’t even started a game for his club side Central Coast Mariners but Australia head coach Graham Arnold felt it was worth taking a risk on an exciting young talent.

Newcastle United have already snapped up Kuol so, even if he does stand out in the group stages, he won’t be due for a transfer come the end of the tournament.

1) Youssoufa Moukoko (Germany) – 18 Years And 0 Days

The striker is the youngest player to play in the Bundesliga top flight, having made his debut as a 16-year-old back in 2020, and his impressive performances for Borussia Dortmund this season led to Hansi Flick including him in his 26-man squad.

Moukoko’s contract at Dortmund is due to expire in June, and there will be plenty of clubs who will be interested in securing his services if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
