It was seen as a coup by the Magpies when they snapped up the left-back for £15m back in September. Liverpool had also been after the player so the fact that he ended up St James’ Park made it seem like a smart purchase by manager Steve Bruce.
However, Lewis has struggled to make an impact and he lost his place at the beginning of March, having been an unused substitute in Newcastle’s last nine games.
