The Best Players In Europe’s Top 7 Leagues This Season (Based On Their WhoScored Rating)

Jude Bellingham

With the season drawing to a close, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the best-performing players across Europe this campaign.

For this list, we will be looking at the top performer in each of the top 7 European leagues: the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Ligue One, Liga Portugal and the Eredivisie.

We have decided to use the player’s WhoScored rating to determine who makes the cut as this metric is based on the same criteria across all leagues.

Press the next page as we name the best players in Europe this season.

Premier League – Kevin De Bruyne – 7.67

There were actually some sections of the press questioning the Belgian’s form earlier this season, and manager Pep Guardiola was also pretty critical at times.

However, as the campaign reaches a pivotal stage, De Bruyne is very much back to his old self.

While the 31-year-old has only scored seven times in the league, he has provided an impressive 18 assists for his teammates, demonstrating once again his outstanding ability as a playmaker.

Serie A – Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – 7.54

Nobody had really heard about the Georgian when Napoli paid €12m for the winger at the start of the season.

Both Kvaratskhelia and teammate Victor Osimhen have, though, played crucial roles in their team’s outstanding campaign which sees them on the verge of their first league title in three decades.

While Kvaratskhelia has already been touted for moves away from Italy, he could now fetch well over €100m.

La Liga – Karim Benzema – 7.62

Despite now being 35 years of age, the Frenchman has shown no signs of slowing down.

While injuries have limited his game time somewhat for Real Madrid this campaign, he has still scored 17 goals in 21 league appearances.

With Real in yet another Champions League semi-final, who is to say that Benzema won’t help the 14-time winners to yet another European Cup?

Bundesliga – Jude Bellingham – 7.50

There is a lot of speculation about the England international’s future after an excellent season in Germany for Borussia Dortmund.

Many had assumed that Bellingham would be returning to England this summer, but it appears that Real Madrid have won the race for his signature.

The cost of the deal could well exceed the £100m that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish to become the most expensive English footballer of all time.

Ligue One – Lionel Messi – 8.34

While the goals have begun to dry up somewhat, the Argentinian legend remains an outstanding player, having scored 15 goals and provided 15 assists in 28 Ligue One appearances.

PSG’s failures in Europe, though, have led to Messi reconsidering his future in France, and he is now expected to leave when his contract expires this summer.

Could a shock return to Barcelona be on the cards? We shall have to wait and see.

Liga Portugal – Pedro Goncalves – 7.54

The 24-year-old is certainly not a household name but he has been performing exceptionally for Sporting Lisbon.

Goncalves has had 24 goal involvements in 29 league games for his club, which is a pretty decent return.

However, probably his most memorable moment of the season came in the Europa League when he scored from the halfway line versus Arsenal.

Eredivisie – Dusan Tadic – 7.77

Even though he is 34 years of age, the Serbian continues to impress for Ajax. He is their key playmaker with 17 league assists.

It must be said that Tadic could have had a more high-profile club career. While he had a four-year spell at Southampton, he has spent most of his professional career in the Eredivisie.

It appears that he is more than content being a big fish in a small pond by staying in Holland for so long.
