West Ham have joined Roma in the battle to sign Wolfsburg target man Wout Weghorst, according to reports in the Italian media.
The 6ft 6 striker, who has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle in the past, has been in very good form this season, scoring 25 goals in 41 appearances, helping Wolfsburg to finish 4th in the Bundesliga.
Weghorst was valued at £32m last summer and, while he now only has two years remaining on his contract, his price tag may have increased further, considering his scoring record this season. However, fans on Twitter are wary about signing another player from Germany:
Surely be another haller

Isn’t he similar to haller? Who also had a good goal scoring record in Germany. Look how that turned out

The experience with Sebastien Haller has certainly impacted supporter’s attitudes towards signing Bundesliga players, and the fact that Weghorst has a similar profile will make the Dutchman an even less attractive option.
Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham appears to be the club’s main target currently so Weghorst may just be a backup target.
