Sporting Director Admits Club Could “Sacrifice” 21M Rated Defender As West Ham And Arsenal Circle

Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio has acknowledged that Aaron Hickey could be sold for the right price this summer.

Both West Ham and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the Scotland international but, while Di Vaio says that his club would be open to offers for the defender, they will only accept a bid if it matches their valuation:

“It could be [possible that Hickey leaves], he is one of those we could sacrifice, but if we don’t receive adequate offers, he’ll likely stay for another year. We have a good potential to do well and earn more than 50 points [next season]. We must be good at financing new signings and finding new players. If we make the right moves, we’ll be able to replace them and keep all the others.”

It is believed that Bologna would want at least €25m (£21m) for Hickey, who they bought from Hearts for £1.5m almost two years ago. With Arsenal said to be focusing their attention on signing Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, it doesn’t look as if signing a fullback is one of their priorities, which should hand the Hammers an advantage.

Manager David Moyes is thought to be keen on recruiting a player that can provide competition for Aaron Cresswell and Hickey does seem like the right fit in terms of age and profile. We shall see if the London club press ahead with a bid in the coming weeks.
