Should David Moyes Be Sacked At West Ham United?

Currently, David Moyes is not the most popular figure at the London Stadium. Several sections of the West Ham fanbase believe he should be relieved of his duties – a loss against Nottingham Forest at the weekend could seal the former Man Utd and Everton boss’ fate.

In their last game vs Spurs, West Ham looked particularly poor. Not only were they tactically negative, the team as a whole looked uninspired. Swathes of Hammers fans took to Twitter to vent their anger at the result, with the lion’s share of their vitriol being directed at Moyes.

But should Moyes be sacked at West Ham? While results have been generally below par, we feel that Moyes would at least be able to keep the Irons up this season.

West Ham started the season poorly, with three consecutive defeats in the league. They have picked up the occasional good result this season – including wins over Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton – but they have all been in isolation amidst a sea of poor performances and disappointing defeats.

If West Ham want to press on and win trophies, David Moyes is probably not the best option to go with. He can keep teams solid and make them difficult to beat, especially in home games – but he isn’t known for his trophy winning acumen.

With the January transfer window passed, there isn’t much a new manager could really do for West Ham at this point. They would need time to implement a new style, which is something they would not have.

As such, keeping Moyes until the end of the season is probably the Irons’ best cause of action – but in the summer, it may be time to look beyond the former Manchester United head coach.
