Rob Newman Travels To Germany To Watch Swiss Midfield Enforcer As West Ham Consider Declan Rice Alternatives

Djibril Sow

West Ham’s Head of Recruitment Rob Newman travelled to watch Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow last week, according to The Sun.

The English tabloid claims that Newman was in the stands to see the Swiss international play against Borussia Dortmund in a 4-0 defeat.

Sow was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes but, whether he impressed with his performance, it is doubtful, considering that Frankfurt were on the receiving end of a hammering.

The Sun claim that the 26-year-old has been added to a “shortlist” of targets as West Ham prepare for life without Declan Rice, with the club captain tipped to leave the London Stadium this summer.

Arsenal, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest on Sow in recent months, so the Hammers are unlikely to be the only team pursuing the midfielder when the transfer window opens.

He has spent the last four years in Germany but the fact that the player is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract means he could be available relatively cheaply.
