Manchester United have slashed their asking price for attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard to £15m, according to reports in the English media.
The former West Ham loanee’s contract at Old Trafford expires next summer but he is stalling on a new deal as he wants to be guaranteed more first-team football.
Lingard could be signed for free next July and supporters on Twitter are divided on whether the Hammers should bite the bullet and pay the money in January or wait until the end of the season:
Absolutely not. Ridiculous waste of money

United would be getting the better deal but still might be worth it

Too much, 10m is a fair offer with only 6 months left on his contract.

Would be pleased but won’t lose sleep if it didn’t happen

Honestly would be reluctant to even go to 10M but only because of how well he done for us and his decent England form etc.

£10m then we can talk

You look at the price we sold Anderson for, pretty sure he still had more than 6 months left on his contract. Can’t see we would go for him now because we got Vlasic, but if we did I’d say £5m max also big wages and no sell on value due to his age. Great player though.

Newcastle have been mentioned as a possible destination in recent days, while Barcelona and AC Milan are also said to be considering Lingard as a signing on a free transfer.
Even so, £15m is a lot for a player who has such little time remaining on his contract. Lingard had a fantastic six-month spell at the London Stadium, though, and we shall see if West Ham push the boat out in order to bring him back.
