West Ham have become “an option” for Marseille midfielder Gerson but the player’s father has “irritated” the Hammers’ board, according to Goal Brasil.
The Brazilian, who has been compared to Paul Pogba, is keen on returning to South America, with former club Flamengo his preferred destination.
However, Gerson’s father, Marcao, who has been representing his son, has made a move back to Brazil very difficult. He has been trying to negotiate a deal behind Marseille’s back which hasn’t gone down well with the French club.
They have decided to slap a €20m (£17m) asking price on the 25-year-old, which has put him outside Flamengo’s price range. It has led Marcao to offer the player to teams in Spain and England, including the Hammers.
With it being clear, though, that Gerson’s preference is Flamengo, it has meant David Moyes’s side are not particularly happy with the midfielder and his entourage. At this stage, the chances of him moving to the London Stadium are very low.
