West Ham have made an offer for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, according to journalist Andreas Boni.
The Swiss reporter claims that the Hammers are competing with Ligue One side Nice for the player’s signature:
Nizza kriegt Konkurrenz: Premier-League-Klub West Ham hat ein Angebot für Nico Elvedi hinterlegt. Verbleib in Gladbach wie ein Wechsel möglich 🏴🇫🇷🇩🇪

Elvedi has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester City over the past couple of years and at 25, he is still a pretty decent age. However, while many feel the centre-back could be a good signing, fans on Twitter fear he could be a replacement for Craig Dawson:
dawson out, elvedi in 🙂 https://t.co/7Jhlglu2k4

That Elvedi reminds me of Declan Rice, distrusts opponents play so well then plays it simple and let’s his team attack.
From his highlight reels it looks like smart business

Very good player…but I don't know if they will let him go

Means Dawson is most likely leaving 😭

I do like the vast majority of West Ham targets have been around 25 or younger
If we replace Dawson with Elvedi – I’d be happy, Dawson gets his wish after good service and we get a top international player who’s 7 years younger 🤞🤞🤞

At the moment, it isn’t known how much Elvedi would cost but it seems like Gladbach may hold out for a decent amount, considering the Swiss international is one of their key players.
With West Ham boss having already signed Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer to strengthen the centre of defence, bringing in Elvedi would probably suggest a more permanent switch to a back three, with Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma also available for selection.
