TOP 5 Premier League Managers Who Are Favourites To Be Sacked

Erik ten Hag

We may only be 5 games into the Premier League season, but pressure is already growing on certain managers whose clubs have started the campaign poorly.

Sackings seem to occur earlier and earlier every year, and you wouldn’t be surprised if there is a managerial casualty before the next international break.

There is one manager of a very high-profile club who has made our list, while the others may not come as a shock to many people.

Press the next page as we name the 5 Premier League coaches who are favourites to be sacked (based on odds from William Hill as of 20th September).

5) Gary O’Neil (Wolves) – 10/1

Despite some promising performances at the beginning of his reign at Molineux, O’Neil has one solitary win to his name in his first 5 matches. That came against Everton last month.

Wolves have suffered defeats in their other 4 Premier League fixtures, including a heavy 4-1 home defeat to Brighton.

They put up a spirited fight against Liverpool last weekend when they went 1-0 up early on, and the result could have been different on another day but, ultimately, they lost the game.

Considering O’Neil was only appointed right before the start of the season, the 40-year-old may be given a bit more time.

=3) Rob Edwards (Luton Town) – 8/1

The Hatters’ stay in the Premier League could be a very brief one based on their opening four games.

Edwards did fantastically well to guide Luton through the Championship playoffs last season but his squad lacks the quality required to really compete in the English top flight.

Of course, things could still change. They were competitive against Fulham last Saturday and, arguably, they had the better chances to score.

However, it is now four consecutive defeats, having scored just 2 goals and conceded 10. Edwards has a job on his hands improving the club’s fortunes.

=3) Erik ten Hag (Manchester United) – 8/1

It’s only mid-September, but United have lurched from crisis to crisis at the start of this season.

Issues involving players off the field haven’t helped ten Hag but the performances on the pitch have been pretty dire.

Defeats to Tottenham, Arsenal and Brighton were all deserved, while they were lucky to secure the three points in their two wins versus Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Ten Hag’s job is not under threat at the moment, but if he doesn’t put a run of results together in the next month or so, people will start asking questions.

2) Sean Dyche (Everton) – 9/4

The Toffees escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season and it seems another battle against the drop is on the cards.

It doesn’t help that the style of football that Sean Dyche’s team is playing is pretty awful. If he was winning games, it wouldn’t matter as much, but the defensive, safety-first approach simply isn’t working.

2 goals scored and 9 conceded in 5 matches, with just 1 point to show for it isn’t a good return.

Supporters are likely to turn on Dyche pretty fast if he can’t pick up some wins in upcoming fixtures.

1) Paul Heckingbottom (Sheffield United) – 5/4

Much like Luton, the Blades decided against spending sizeable sums on new signings after being promoted from the Championship.

As a result, the Yorkshire club are struggling to compete, which has come as a surprise to no one, including manager Paul Heckingbottom.

With their only point so far having been picked up at home against fellow strugglers Everton, United fans are seemingly in for a difficult season.

It is debatable whether sacking Heckingbottom would make any difference, though, considering the lack of quality in the first-team squad.
