The Top 5 Premier League Clubs Who Have Spent The Most On Agent Fees During 2023/24

There is an ongoing debate about the role of agents in modern football. While FIFA believe there is a greater need to regulate them due to the fees they earn, the agents themselves claim they are providing a worthwhile service to their clients.

The FA recently published the latest figures paid to agents by clubs and the numbers are not insignificant.

It has been revealed that the top 5 Premier League teams paid out an astonishing £226m during a twelve month period between February 2023 and February 2024; over half of which was spent by just two clubs.

Press the next page as we list the five teams who have spent the most on agent fees this season.

5) Arsenal – £24,760,875

It was another busy summer transfer window for the Gunners.

They brought in four major signings that cost over £200m in transfer fees, with an additional £25m going to agents.

The most high-profile new addition was, of course, the club-record purchase of Declan Rice from West Ham.

Arsenal paid £100m upfront for the England international, with another £5m due in add-ons.

4) Liverpool – £31,500,211

There was a high turnover of players at Anfield last year with the Reds keen to recover from a disappointing league campaign.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo were all brought in.

Important figures such as Fabinho and club captain Jordan Henderson also left the club.

All of those transfer dealings meant that agents were heavily involved, accruing in excess of £30m in fees.

3) Manchester United – £34,054,001

The Red Devils had an even busier summer transfer window than Liverpool but they paid a pretty similar sum to their North West rivals in terms of agent fees.

Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Amadou Onana were all recruited for sizeable sums, while Sofyan Amrabat (loan) and Altay Bayindir also came in.

There were plenty of outgoings as well, with Fred, Alex Telles, Anthony Elanga and Dean Henderson having all left.

It will be interesting to see how Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival will affect their transfer spending and their willingness to pay agents.

2) Manchester City – £60,626,025

City have spent almost double what their rivals United have paid on agents over the last 12 months.

Interestingly enough, their transfer spend over that same period is only marginally higher, having shelled out roughly £220m on five signings.

Josko Gvardiol (£77.6m), Jeremy Doku (£55.5m), Matheus Nunes (£53m) and Mateo Kovacic (£25m) all arrived in the summer.

However, the Premier League champions also spent £12.5m on River Plate’s Claudio Echeverri during the January transfer window, which likely increased their agent fees.

1) Chelsea – £75,140,524

The Blues’ big spending isn’t just restricted to transfer fees it seems.

12 players have been signed over the course of the last two transfer windows, including the British record deal for Moises Caicedo.

8 players also left Stamford Bridge for transfer fees, and there was likely significant involvement of agents in all of those deals.

£75m is an eye-watering sum of money, and you do have to wonder why so much is spent on people who are not actually part of the game itself.
