“Poor” Shearer Criticises West Ham Star Despite Many Fans Believing He Had An Excellent Game Yesterday

BBC pundit Alan Shearer has been critical of West Ham defender Kurt Zouma for his part in Manchester United‘s winning goal yesterday afternoon.

Jesse Lingard curled in the winner from just inside the box with just two minutes remaining of normal time, but Shearer feels that Zouma should have pressed the United forward more in order to prevent him from getting the shot away:

“Poor defending I think because that’s exactly what he wants to do and Zouma should know that. He can’t let him come inside like that, he’s got to get tighter.”

It is probably a fair criticism of Zouma but many supporters thought he had a great home debut for the Hammers overall.

The 26-year-old kept Cristiano Ronaldo quiet for the most part and was generally in the right place at the right time to clear his lines when required.

On the basis of his early displays for West Ham, Zouma looks like a very good purchase by manager David Moyes and the £25m they paid Chelsea for the player could well turn out to be a bargain.
