Pellegrini Reveals Reason Behind Key West Ham Man’s Absence Against Wolves

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that Michail Antonio was not injured and was merely rested for the 2-0 loss against Wolves last night:

“It was a risk for him to play this game. He is not able to play and I hope he will be recovered for Monday.”

The 29-year-old was replaced in the starting line up by Sebastien Haller at Molineux but the Frenchman was once again ineffective as the Hammers slumped to their seventh league defeat of the season.

Antonio has only recently come back from a three-month injury layoff, due to a hamstring tear he picked up in a Carabao Cup game against Newport County back in August.

Playing a second match in the space of a few days was obviously deemed unwise by the West Ham medical staff, but he was sorely missed as the Irons failed to create many clear cut chances in the defeat to Wolves.

Supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed that Antonio is fit and available to face Arsenal in a crunch derby at the London Stadium on Monday evening.
