Pellegrini happy with Hammers’ transfer business, but wants two more signings

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has expressed his delight over the club’s fantastic summer transfer business.

The Hammers have been one of the more busier teams in the transfer window, bringing in eight new players as well as still trying to get two further deals over the line before Thursday’s deadline.

Deals for Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko, Fabian Balbuena, Felipe Anderson and Xande Silva have been completed so far this summer, and they are still expected to sign striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal as well as a further central midfielder.

It means the Hammers have spent over £100m on new recruits this summer, and with the new season just days away, Pellegrini, who was speaking at Sky Sports’ Premier League launch show, admits he is happy with the business that has been conducted.

“Very happy because all the players are here because I asked for them,” he said.

“We have good players, technical players. We need to improve our defending but we need creating players because for me, the best way to defend is to keep the ball. We bought Wilshere, Anderson and Yarmolenko to do that.”

Pellegrini was also asked why he wanted to return to the Premier League, and the Chilean revealed it was the project at West Ham that attracted him.

“They [the owners] wanted to change, they wanted to return to a style of football that was here before at West Ham so when I met the owners, we talked about a lot of different things they offered me to manage a good project with new players, so here we are.”
