Pellegrini denies Toure transfer rumours

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has played down rumours surrounding the potential addition of Yaya Toure to the side.

Toure has been a free agent after leaving Manchester City at the end of last season, spending 8 glorious years at the Etihad where he will be remembered as one of their greatest ever stars.

Pellegrini spent three years at City working with Toure, when the midfielder was arguably still at the peak of his game.

But the Ivorian is yet to find a club since leaving the Blues, and the Hammers were heavily linked with a move for him all summer long.

However, Pellegrini has ruled out any deal being done, saying that his squad is full of players in the same position.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, the Chilean boss said: “Yaya is a very good player. In his position at the moment we have very good players.

“He will always be a good player in any team but right now our squad is ready.”

And talking of midfielders, Pellegrini admitted he may try Jack Wilshere in a more defensive role in the future – with the England international struggling to make any sort of impact on his debut for the club last weekend.

“I see Jack playing as a holding midfielder but with free movement. It’s the best position that he likes to play also,” he added.

“He can give us very good build up from outside. He is a player who is always doing creative things during the game.”
