‘Once a Hammer, always a Hammer’ – West Ham fans welcome Jack Wilshere to the London Stadium

West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to welcome new signing Jack Wilshere to the club.

Wilshere, who was a boyhood West Ham fan, joined the Hammers from Arsenal on a free transfer after 17 years with the North London club.

The 25-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a three year contract at the London Stadium yesterday, and will now fly out to meet with his new team-mates and manager Manuel Pellegrini in Switzerland, where they are currently at a pre-season training camp.

“It feels good, it feels special,” said Wilshere, whose father and brother are also lifelong Hammers. “Many people know that I’ve had a special bond with this Club growing up.

“People will have seen the picture of me in a West Ham shirt and I’ve got good memories of my childhood supporting West Ham, watching them at Upton Park. It feels good and of course my family and a few of my friends are West Ham fans so everyone’s buzzing.”

Wilshere is West Ham’s fourth signing of the summer after the Hammers completed moves for Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski, Fulham full-back Ryan Fredericks and Toulouse star Issa Diop.

All are seen as quality additions to Manuel Pellegrini’s new squad, however Wilshere’s move to his boyhood club has gone down as a particularly huge hit with the Claret and Blue army. Welcome home, Jack!
