Oldest Players Currently Playing In The Premier League

While all eyes may be on the young, exciting talents in the Premier League, it’s important to remember the veterans – those who are still playing at an incredibly high level despite their advanced age.

We’ll be looking at players from teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham United for this gallery and as you can imagine many of the players have represented several Premier League clubs.

One of the players on our list is an astonishing 38 years of age and still looks to have a few seasons left in him at the highest level – can you guess who it is?

They say it takes a long time for a diamond to be formed – these golden oldies are living proof of that.

James Milner

One of the greatest utility players in Premier League history, you would be hard-pressed to find a position that James Milner has not played in (no, goalkeeper doesn’t count, stop it).

A consummate professional in every sense, many teams would benefit from a player like Milner – someone who always gives everything they have and never complains about playing out of position.

Over the course of his lengthy career, Milner has played for several reputable clubs before joining Liverpool – including Newcastle United, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Leeds United where it all began for him.

Ashley Young

Former Manchester United star Ashley Young is now 37 years old – he isn’t quite as young as he used to be (we’re sorry for that one).

A determined player, as he began to lose his pace, he was reinvented in a deeper role – he excelled in this new position, as it allowed him more space to whip in his deadly crosses.

Young began his career as a winger with Watford before leaving for Aston Villa. Having begun as a winger, he has played in many different positions, including left-back and even as a centre-forward.

Young has returned to Aston Villa and is the club captain there this season which shows the respect he has amongst his peers. Let’s not forget he won a Serie A title with Inter Milan during his spell in Italy under former Chelsea and Spurs manager Antonio Conte.

Lukasz Fabianski

West Ham United’s Lukasz Fabianski is the second-oldest player in the league, just few months older than Ashley Young. He’s had a respectable career – perhaps his best moment came when he won the FA Cup in 2014 with Arsenal.

He has been the Hammers’ first-choice ‘keeper this season, despite his age. Generally, goalkeepers tend to play for longer than outfield players, due to the lesser amount of running they have to do – Fabianski certainly hasn’t missed a beat.

A wonderful shot-stopper, his ability to claim crosses and deal with set pieces often leaves something to be desired – but his command over his area has improved as he has gotten older.

Fabianski is a doubt for West Ham’s crunch clash with Southampton in the relegation battle the club find themselves in, and would surely be a big plus to the confidence of the team if he played.

Thiago Silva

The oldest player in the Premier League is also one of its best – Thiago Silva will be regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time upon his retirement.

The superlatives you can use to describe Chelsea’s ace defender are limitless. His anticipation skills are legendary – as is his ability to put in a meaty challenge.

He holds Chelsea’s defence together and rules with an iron fist at the back – he is the defensive rock that the Blues have been missing ever since John Terry left the club.
