Moyes ‘not frightened’ by the task ahead

New Hammers boss David Moyes insists he is not ‘frightened’ by the demands of the club’s board, and admits he is pleased with the amount of backing he has been given.

The former Manchester United, Everton and Sunderland manager has been given a six-month contract at the Hammers, and his job will be to first and foremost keep the club in the top flight of English football.

The club’s co-owner David Gold says they appointed the ‘best man available’ in Moyes, and has backed him to succeed in keeping them afloat in the division.

Moyes himself is feeling positive about the job ahead, saying the board are full of support, but admits it will not be an easy task.

“David Sullivan, David Gold and Karen Brady have all been really supportive,” said Moyes.

“They’ve told me what to expect. There’s nothing they’ve said to me that frightens me. The job is not easy for any manager and you need good owners behind you.”

“When you start you never know how many games you’re going to get but to get 500 in the Premier League I’m very proud, and very proud to be doing it as a West Ham manager.”

Moyes also confirmed he is in talks to bring new faces in to join his backroom staff, with Stuart Pearce set to arrive.

“I’m in talks with one or two,” said Moyes. “I’m hoping to have a good, strong staff with me because we know what we need to do and we want it done quickly.”
