Moyes Is Already Getting It Very Wrong With West Ham As Man City Game Looms

He was certainly not universally accepted by West Ham fans. After unsuccessful spells with his three previous clubs, that was hardly surprising.

What was surprising was that, as two of his previous three clubs were relegated, the owners at West Ham thought he was the one to SAVE them from relegation.

Where did that logic come from?

Usually when a club moves from a relatively small stadium to a much larger one it is because their whizz-kids in the marketing department have forecast that their are many more fans just waiting for an opportunity to attend games and are only staying away at present because they can’t get in!

The way West Ham are going they would be able to move back to Upton Park and still struggle to fill it!

This is nothing new to Moyes who experienced the ignominy of supporters leaving at half-time whilst manager of Sunderland.

What on earth possessed the owners at The London Stadium to appoint him? That is the question.

Alan Pardew has just taken over at West Brom and he has an excellent record of getting results at the beginning of his tenures. He would have been a better fit at West Ham than Moyes. (And he knows the club having managed there before).

Former Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has just taken over at Everton. Not only will that move ensure that they stay in the Premier League, it will also see them start to climb the table. He would have been a better fit at West Ham than Moyes. (And he knows the club having managed there before).

Craig Shakespeare was available having been fired by Leicester and he has a better recent record than Moyes.

To be honest, even William Shakespeare would have been a better appointment than Moyes and his program notes would certainly be far more interesting!

Moyes has now been in charge for three games and has one point to show for his efforts.

His first game away at Watford was a defeat. Not entirely unexpected as Watford are looking good this season under Marco Silva. So maybe he can be forgiven that one.

The second game was a draw, at home, with Leicester City. Again, not a disastrous result but still a game the new West Ham would be expected to get three points from

The third game was disastrous, whatever excuses he makes about it. To lose to an Everton team who couldn’t win a raffle if they were the only participant before meeting West Ham was inexcusable.

Even in three games some improvement should have been shown. There has been none. One point from three games shows that Moyes doesn’t even have that “new manager” effect on his teams.

As an ex-central defender the first thing he would be expected to tighten up would be the defence. In his three games in charge they have conceded seven goals with the most coming in their last game which suggests he is going backwards.

As we write this, his next match is against Manchester City at The Etihad. It will be a major surprise, indeed shock, if he gets anything out of that one.

The question which will inevitably face the West Ham board sooner, rather than later, is; how long are they prepared to put up with the whingeing Scot after Christmas? Are they prepared for relegation?

The fact of the matter is that if they are not prepared for relegation and, more importantly, wish to avoid it, they need to very quickly recognise their mistake and correct it.

Moyes has lasted less than twelve months in his last two jobs, that says a lot about his success rate. For West Ham to survive, he has to last less than six months in this one.
