Midfielder aiming to pick up where he left off after spell on sidelines

West Ham United midfielder Marko Arnautovic has insisted he intends to pick up where he left off when he makes his return from injury.

The Austrian picked up a hamstring knock just over two-weeks ago and has been out of action since.

Before the setback, Arnautovic had enjoyed a brilliant run of form for David Moyes’ side in which he scored five times in his last six Premier League games, and the former Stoke City man says he has every intention to carry on that form upon his return to action.

He said: “I feel good, the injury has improved a lot and I’m already outside starting to run and do my work. If it goes like that this week and next week, hopefully I’ll be back then.

“I’m trying everything to be back as quickly as possible because I want to help the team. I want to score some goals and win some games – that’s why I’m trying everything to be back as quickly as possible.”

Arnautovic has also praised the signing of midfielder Joao Mario, who joined from Inter Milan earlier this month, and believes the Portugal international will be a huge success at the London Stadium.

“Everybody knows that Joao is a big player,” he added. “He came from Inter, we didn’t know if he was coming or not, but finally he is here and he made an impact last night. Of course I am looking forward to playing with him.”
