Michael Owen Predicts The Scoreline As West Ham Face Chelsea

Michael Owen is expecting West Ham to suffer defeat when they take on Chelsea in the London derby tomorrow evening.

The Hammers are right in the mix for Champions League places with the Blues, but Owen feels the away side’s strong defence could prove decisive in securing the three points at the London Stadium:

“For the Hammers, Champions League football is a real possibility and the prospect of beating one of their fiercest rivals as they both go for qualification will be salivating for Hammers’ fans. That said, this Chelsea side are proving to be a hard nut to crack for any side that crosses their path.”

“The Blues’ 1-0 victory against Manchester City epitomised their defensive solidity, and if they can maintain that level of performance, I think they could be one of few teams to leave the London Stadium with maximum points this season.”

Owen has gone with a 2-1 win for Chelsea, which is a surprising prediction considering that West Ham have the second strongest home record in the whole Premier League this campaign.

David Moyes’s side have only lost to Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle on their ground, and have also drawn with Manchester City, so Owen could be underrating their chances somewhat.

Of course, the Irons do have a number of injury concerns, including Declan Rice, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell, and missing key players may influence the outcome of the game. It will, though, be a tightly-contested affair no matter the result.
