Merson: West Ham Star’s Display Has Given “Manager A Headache” Over £22m Signing

Paul Merson thinks Robert Snodgrass’s display against Brighton may present West Ham manager David Moyes with a problem over how to include new signing Jarrod Bowen.

The £22m recruit from Hull City generally prefers to play on the right-wing, but Snodgrass showed yesterday what he can do playing in the same position, with a goal and an assist in the 3-3 draw. Merson believes it leaves Moyes with a selection issue:

“I thought he was the one who was going to make way for Bowen, because I’m sure Antonio is definitely going to play. For me, all of a sudden, he has given the manager a headache. You know, paying for Bowen, he will have to play.”

There could, however, be an easy solution to this dilemma. Bowen has played through the middle for Hull this season and with Sebastien Haller needing more support up front, the club’s newest signing could easily be selected in a front two, with Snodgrass retaining his place.

Whether that will indeed happen, it remains to be seen, but at least Moyes now has a lot more choice in his forward line so he can chop and change, and make selection decisions.
